Basilica of St. Mary of the Altar of Heaven in Rome

This church stands on the highest edge of Campidoglio (Capitoline Hill), one of the seven hills of Rome and home to the City Council. To access the church you need to climb a long and steep stairway that would be tough and challenging for the most trained body-builder. Even so, the view you can soak in from the top will leave you speechless, so will the sumptuously decorated church interiors and the breath-taking views from the central nave.

This magnificent church, dedicated to two Saints (Saint Boniface of Tarsus and Saint Alexius) was built between the first and fourth centuries. With its interiors showcasing several masterpieces, statues, frescoes, and sumptuous decorations, this church ranks among the top churches in Rome chosen by Romans and international couples for their wedding. Spouses are mainly attracted to its opulent interiors and to the surroundings. Indeed this historic Basilica is perched in a top-class neighbourhood of Rome called ‘Aventine hill’.

Aventine is one of the seven hills of Rome. It’s a very elegant and silent area housing several churches and spectacular view terraces overlooking the city from several angles. One of the most renowned roof terrace with fabulous views over the Tiber river, Saint Peter, Venice Square and other sites of great interest in Rome is  Giardino Degli Aranci (Garden of Oranges), where lots of just-married couples enjoy an after-ceremony walk-in for a photo or a video shooting (as I also did 😊).

A special highlight of this garden is Saint Peter Basilica’s Dome whose form is fully visible through the Garden gate’s lock during off-hours. Santa Sabina church stands right beside the Garden’s gate. Right beside the church lies the Villa del Priorato di Malta or Magistral Villa which is one of the two governmental seats of the centenary Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

This church is also where I got married so if you have any questions do not hesitate to fill out this contact form or drop me an email at [email protected]

Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem

Santa Croce Basilica in Rome 9 Top churches for a Magical Catholic Wedding in Rome

This minor Roman Catholic Basilica was first built in the 4th century. It is located in the neighbourhood of ‘San Giovanni in Laterano’, and it’s especially known for the sacred relics of Jesus’ cross and other passion’s elements, preserved in this church. Allegedly the relics of Jesus were transported upon Saint Elena’s request from Jerusalem to Rome in 325.

Besides being a very fascinating church beautifully decked with frescoes and paintings, the church presents some practicalities. One of them is the large square opposite the church front gate, where guests can comfortably gather together before and after the ceremony. Secondly, the adjacent streets host numerous parking facilities on payment (around 2 euros per hour).

Being it a monumental church, it is strongly recommendable to book one year ahead of your desired wedding date.
